Gynecomastia can prevent men from showing their chest with confidence. No matter how much working out or dieting, the glandular part of the chest tissue often requires surgery to correct. As in this 35 year old patient, a small amount of gland can create an unpleasant nipple area that detracts from an otherwise great upper body. Surgery, usually through two very small sites, can remove this tissue making men more confident in wearing tighter shirts or no shirt at all.
While many cases of gynecomastia resolve with time, there are patients in which it persist for years. This can have a negative impact of social interaction and participation in athletics.
